The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and support UQ Chemical Engineering graduates to undertake a PhD program at an Eligible Overseas Institution. The costs for the travel to and from the Eligible Overseas Institution where they study including travel costs during their PhD to attend conferences overseas, up to a maximum of $20,000.
An applicant is eligible for the Scholarship if the applicant:
- Submits an application to the Head, by the closing date for applications.
- Is an Australian Citizen.
- Is a UQ Chemical Engineering Graduate.
- Is enrolled full-time to study a PhD program at an Eligible Overseas Institution.
- Has already been awarded a full scholarship and accepted to undertake a PhD program at an Eligible Overseas Institution.
- Has provided an outline of the travel proposal and budget.
Approved Program means the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), or an engineering integrated program, or an engineering dual program
Approved Purpose means costs for the applicant travel to and from the Eligible Overseas Institution where they study, including travel costs and reasonable accommodation costs during their PhD studies to attend conferences overseas, up to a maximum of $20,000
Eligible Overseas Institution means the top globally ranked Institutions for chemical engineering
Head means the Head of School, School of Chemical Engineering
Post-Graduate Coordinator means the Postgraduate Coordinator for the School of Chemical Engineering postgraduate studies
Relevant Field means any field or fields of study in chemical engineering
Scholarship means a Nicklin White Graduate Travel Scholarship UQ Chemical Engineering
Graduate means a graduate from The University of Queensland in the Relevant Field
Selection of award
For the selection process, the Head of School must establish a selection committee, comprising:
- the Head, or nominee, as chair of the committee,
- one member of the University’s academic staff teaching in the Relevant Field,
- the Postgraduate, Coordinator or delegate.
The Scholarship is awarded to an applicant showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by:
- academic achievement in their UQ University degree,
- strength of the proposed study for their PhD program,
- personal qualities, including leadership skills.
Conditions of award
The recipient may hold the Scholarship for the duration of the Approved Program subject to the recipient continuing to be enrolled full-time in their PhD program and continuing to receive a PhD Scholarship at an Eligible Overseas Institution and providing each semester evidence of their PhD enrolment and scholarship status.
- The Approved Purpose can be used as follows:
- Travel by the applicant and immediate family to the Eligible Overseas Institution during their PhD program and travel at the completion of their PhD program.
- The recipient only may attend conferences whilst undertaking their PhD program. This support would include travel to the conference, registration fees and reasonable accommodation costs.
- The recipient will provide annually a report and any photographs or relevant information about the travel.
- Any unspent funds must be returned at the completion of the duration of the scholarship.
Termination of scholarship
The School of Chemical Engineering will terminate a Scholarship if:
- funds are used for a purpose which is not an Approved Purpose,
- the recipient does not provide the semester reports.
