Dow centre partnerships
The UQ Dow Centre regularly works with Industry partners and leading research institutions in Australia and globally to contribute to the sustainability of industrial processes through collaborative research projects.
As part of the School of Chemical Engineering, The Centre also seeks to contribute to national and international policy-making through its capacity to deliver systems analysis and its focus on scalable, solution-focused research projects.

Industry
The Centre is committed to projects that focus on current industry challenges and contribute to the sustainability of industrial processes.
Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Program
The CRC Program is an Australian grant scheme designed to promote research and collaboration between research bodies and industry. Through this scheme, the Dow Centre is able to address current industry challenges and contribute to improved competitiveness, productivity and sustainability of Australian industries. The UQ Dow Centre is a member of the Future Fuels CRC as well the Fight Food Waste CRC. The UQ Dow Centre is also proud to partner with Printed Energy Pty Ltd as part of a Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) Project to develop and commercialise thin flexible batteries.
Advance Queensland Innovation Partnerships
The Advance Queensland Innovation Partnerships (AQIP) program supports research organisations to undertake collaborative research projects with end-users (industry, small to medium size enterprises, public sector and non-government organisations) that address an industry or end-user issue. Through the AQIP program, the Dow Centre is currently collaborating with industry partners to develop environmentally responsive fertilisers as part of the on the Next-Generation Fertilisers project. In addition, Dr Miaoqiang Lyu, a member of the Flexible Printed Batteries project team, is the recipient of a 2019–2022 Advance Queensland Industry Research Fellowship.
Techno-economic Analyses
The Dow Centre undertakes research and Techno-economic Analysis (TEA) consulting projects on behalf of industry clients and research partners. TEA plays an important role in determining which processes and projects are economically competitive and scalable as well as environmentally and socially acceptable, providing direction for further research, development, investment, and policy making.

Philanthropy
The support of our donors advances the pathway toward a more sustainable, innovative and prosperous future. The UQ Dow Centre warmly acknowledges and thanks each of our supporters for their vision and generosity.
The Dow Chemical Company
In 2012 the University of Queensland received a US$10M donation from The Dow Chemical Company to establish the UQ Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation. The Dow Chemical Company anchored the formation of the Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering innovation with their extraordinary gift, and in 2018 reaffirmed their generous support with a further gift of US$3.5 M ($4.4 M).
The cutting-edge research being undertaken at the Dow Centre would not be possible without the vision and longstanding support of the Dow Chemical Company.
Dow’s support has also made possible the endowment of the Dow Chair in Sustainable Engineering Innovation at UQ, securing the Centre’s ongoing capacity to deliver leading research and innovation in the sustainable production of energy and materials.
Dow’s philanthropic support has also provided scholarships for talented undergraduate and postgraduate students to undertake work-integrated learning, pursue a world-class education, and contribute new knowledge toward creating change that advances society.
The Trevor and Judith St Baker Family Foundation
Trevor St Baker AO and his wife Judith St Baker have been long-standing supporters of the University and their community, spearheading multiple investment and philanthropic initiatives that build breakthrough technologies in the fields of energy, transport, and healthcare.
Their stunning generosity was recognised in 2018, when The Trevor and Judith St Baker Family Foundation donated $1.5 M to establish the prestigious Tritium Visiting Fellowship in ElectroMobility (e-Mobility) at the UQ Dow Centre.
Trevor and Judith St Baker’s historic gift will bring world-leading experts to UQ to lead research activities directed toward advancing the performance, economics and uptake of e-Mobility globally.
Research undertaken by the Fellow will inform public policy, investment decisions, technology innovation, public health studies and community behaviour to support the transition to sustainable, low-emission, electric-powered transportation.
