The International Symposium on Advanced Metallurgy and Materials (ISAMM 2026)

The International Symposium on Advanced Metallurgy and Materials (ISAMM) will be held in Wollongong from 16-18 August 2026. This symposium provides a platform for the academic researchers, research students, engineers and industry professionals in metallurgy to meet and exchange recent findings in the latest research and technological developments in the fields of metallurgy and materials science. It is scientific event dedicated to strengthening collaboration, advancing scientific understanding, and promoting innovations across the technological sciences and engineering in metallurgy and materials.

The metallurgical industry is experiencing the important transition from heavily relying on carbon energy to increasingly using the clean and renewable energy such as hydrogen and green electricity. This symposium will address the global challenges to explore the innovated technologies and technical solutions shaping the future of the metallurgical industry. It will cover key areas in metallurgy and material science, with a primary focus on minerals production and metal processing, especially the ferrous metallurgy and metallic materials, including process efficiency, decarbonisation, digital transformation, and the sustainable development of high-end steel materials including various alloys.

This symposium brings together leading experts from academia, research institutes, and industry to discuss the latest advancements in raw materials preparation, ironnaking and steelmaking, non-ferrous metallurgy, computational modelling, process simulation, and emerging sustainability technologies.

By providing a shared forum for high-level dialogue and cooperation, the symposium aims to foster long-term research partnerships among the participants and contribute to a more innovative, efficient, and environmentally sustainable future for global metallurgical processing.

Call for Abstracts

The symposium welcomes abstracts and papers that explore fundamental science, technological innovation, and industrial practice across a broad range of metallurgical processes. Key themes include, but are not limited to:

I. Iron and Steelmaking

Advanced blast furnace and non-blast furnace technologies
Cokemaking, coal utilisation, and bio-carbon pathways

III. Advanced materials

Production, processing, and application of metals
Novel and intensified routes for complex ore and mineral processing

III. Sustainability and Decarbonisation

Hydrogen metallurgy and low-carbon iron and steel production
Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) applications

IV. Modelling, Simulation, and Control

Multiphysics modelling and simulation of metallurgical processes
Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and digital twin applications
Advanced sensors, monitoring technologies, and industrial automation
