UQ Chemical Engineer Selected for Prestigious Nobel Laureate Meeting

25 Mar 2026

Dr Mike Tebyetekerwa has been selected as one of only nine Australian researchers invited to attend the 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in Germany - a prestigious opportunity for emerging scientific leaders.

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings bring together Nobel Prize winners and outstanding early career researchers from across the globe for an intensive exchange of ideas, experience and innovation. The 2026 jubilee meeting will see Dr Tebyetekerwa join Nobel Laureates and fellow researchers from more than 80 countries, connecting across disciplines to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Dr Tebyetekerwa’s research focuses on designing electrochemical systems that produce green chemicals while simultaneously capturing carbon dioxide, work that is pushing the boundaries of sustainable industry and contributing to the acceleration of smart climate solutions.

An ARC DECRA Fellow and Subgroup Leader at the UQ Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide (GETCO₂), Dr Tebyetekerwa’s research supports the development of low emissions technologies and more sustainable manufacturing practices.

Australia’s participation in the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings is supported by the Science and Industry Endowment Fund (SIEF) and administered by the Australian Academy of Science, with the national delegation led by Professor Steven Chown FAA.
